Primal Quest Accepts 90 Teams

Primal Quest management announced today that 90 teams with racers representing at least 19 countries have been selected to participate in the 2006 Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race. Teams from all over the world submitted entries in an attempt to gain entry into the rugged expedition slated for June 25 – July 4, 2005 in the Mountain States of the Great American West.

In response to overwhelming global demand, the field was expanded from 70 to 90 teams. As a result, the 2006 Primal Quest will be the largest expedition-length adventure race ever staged.

“We anticipated a strong response based on the feedback and support we’ve been getting from the adventure racing community,” said Primal Quest CEO, Rich Brazeau, “but it exceeded our expectations right from day one, during the very first hour of registration. Racers are excited and want a true expedition experience.”

At least 19 countries will be represented in the field, including teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Columbia, Denmark, France, Finland, Guatemala, Ireland, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States. This diversity will insure that the 2006 Primal Quest will be among the most international of all expedition-length races ever conducted.

The decision to expand the field from 70 to 90 was not taken lightly. According to Don Mann, Primal Quest Course Director, “Our primary concern was how twenty extra teams would affect the entire race experience - from racer safety to environmental impact to course management. But in consultation with our team, we feel that it is a manageable number of entries. Having state-of-the-art safety precautions in place along with a compact race footprint enabled us to make the decision to expand the field.”
