Trailblazers Announce New Sprint Race
22.01.2006

This sprint distance race will take place on June 24, 2006 at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, GA. Teams of three will travel by foot, mountain bike, and canoe to complete a course of approximately 20 mile. There will also be some basic navigational challenges and ‘mystery’ events requiring brains and teamwork, so more than just pure athleticism will be required to win. A cash prize purse of $600 will be awarded to the top teams in the co-ed division.
“The TrailBlazers are putting on this race to provide an opportunity for adventure racing beginners, or those that would like to try one, to experience a low-key, doable, first-time race while still providing a competitive event for more experienced racersâ€, said Zach Doppel, president of the TrailBlazers Adventure Racing Club.
Co-race director and course designer Chris Von Ins said, “This race will provide a fun challenge for the experienced racer, but the course will be friendly enough for the novice racer to finish and enjoy as well.2
In order to prepare racers who may have never participated in this type of race before, TBARC will host a training day for registered participants on April 29, 2006 at Fort Yargo State Park. Members of the club will lead trail runs and group mountain bike rides, have an Orienteering 101 clinic, and discuss tips on how to have a fun and successful race experience.
Registration for the race is now open. There are also sponsorship and volunteer opportunities available and you can find more here.
