Alpine Shop and Dynamic Earth continues their success at Bonk Hard Chill

At 7 AM on February 11th, 52 of some of the Midwest’s fastest teams lined up at the starting line of the Bonk Hard Chill. It was a chilly 25 degrees at the start of the race, but it didn’t take teams long to warm up on the 4 mile trail run. The run took teams through single track trails to a beautiful bluff top view of the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, and along the lake until they had to cross a couple old wooden bridges to arrive at the canoe put in. At this point Columbia Multisport Club and Dynamic Earth 2 were leading the pack, but Alpine Shop and Dynamic Earth 1 arrived only a couple minutes later.

The next leg of the race was flat water canoeing. Teams were only allowed to exit their canoe at extraction points, which were pre-designated on their clue sheet. From the extraction points, teams were to get 9 checkpoints in an orienteering section, of which could be done in any order. If teams exited the canoe at extraction point 1, and did all of the checkpoints by foot, that would mean less paddling and more bushwhacking. The majority of the teams chose to exit the canoe at extraction point 1, get 3 checkpoints on the orienteering section, then get back in the canoe and paddle to extraction point 2.
