Terra Incognita – Expedition Racing for Pairs
Rob Howard / 19.02.2006

The visiting teams have travelled through some incredible scenery on the Adriatic Coast and the harsh but beautiful mountains of Croatia, and the race has a reputation for challenging courses and some extreme weather. Now the challenge is even greater as the race is switching to entry for pairs only … but keeping the same expedition race distance.
Race Director Simun Cimerman believes it is the first ever expedition race for pairs and is hoping it will make it easier for racers to participate, as finding a team of 4 for a big race can sometimes be difficult.
This year’s race takes place in the Lika region of the North Adriatic from September 19th – 24th on a difficult course, which will cover 350-380km and have a maximum time limit of 100 hours. Mixed or same sex pairs can enter for a cost of 750 Euros per pair.
While it might be easier to find just one other team mate to race with, those who enter will need to be strong and compatible pairs, especially as the course sounds uncompromising. It will include river kayaking up to Level III, sea paddles and swims and climbs up to 1800m. And with pairs there will be no option to continue if one of the team has to withdraw, but Cimerman believes that will add to the adventure of Terra Incognita.
