Palmetto Swamp Fox AR Results
Press Release / 09.03.2006

We went to South Carolina hoping for warm weather racing but it was a chilly 36 degree at the race start. The race started with the three of us being tied together for a mile run to pick up the passport and instructions. We had to plot 12 additional checkpoint (CP) locations on the map that we received the night before. Steve gave us just 2 CP locations to plot the night before the race to give us a small glimpse of the course to come. It is always a painful experience trying to plot CP locations with frozen fingers. With all of the CPs plotted and checked, we scramble to our sea kayaks for the paddle section up and down the inter-coastal waterway.
At the race meeting, Kathie Livingston of Nature Adventures Outfitter warned us to be careful of the numerous hazards on the water like boat wakes, oyster beds, waist deep mud and the potential for hypothermia. Kathie also provided most of the sea kayaks for the race. We decided to bring our own kayaks, one tandem and solo.
