Busting-A-Gut on Mt. Tzouhalem!
Media Release / 04.04.2006

The Short Course follows undulating hiking trails that skirt along the mountain’s base and includes a single difficult climb. This climb offers participants an amazing view of the local area and gives a taste of the Long Course’s more challenging route.
The Long Course starts at sea level and immediately begins the steep climb to the top of the mountain - no warm-up here! Racers gain 500m of elevation in the first 3km of the race. At the top there is a brief reprieve and a moment to see the incredible view before the knarly, bone-jarring single-track descent back to sea level.
This is a beautiful race course through old growth forest with lookouts of Saanich Inlet and local Cowichan Bay. “The Long Course has a reputation of being slow & painful going up and super fast & fun going down,†states Bryan Tasaka, MOMEC Race Director.
