Into The Highlands On The First Trek

Day 2 started with all the teams on leg 2, 138kms of mountain biking. It was a complicated route with difficult terrain, a significant gain in altitude and intricate orienteering.
The first team, #1 Estonian Ace Adventure arrived at TA2 at 4:20am leading the first pack of racers. The teams that have arrived to TA 2 so far are: #03 Columbia VidaRaid, #02 Movistar Terraventura, #13 Bosi Adventure, #07 LifeAdventure Imptek, #06 Movistar Ecuador, #04 MRC/MainNerve, #12 Papacara. They have all started the 3rd leg consisting of 62 km of trekking.
During the trek, the teams will cross a tough agricultural terrain, where they will experience a drastic change in vegetation and weather. During this leg they will go up to the highlands, where the weather can be very extreme, with a high possibility of rain, thunderstorms and harsh winds.
They will reach 4200mts in altitude and will have the rope course on Cerro Sachaucha. The rope course should be very clear and safe if the competitors follow the recommendations and guidelines given by the organization. There is a possibility that the rope course will closed if there are thunderstorms or harsh winds.
The Expedition Teams will finish this long trek in Zumbahua at 3540mts altitude.
For the Adventure teams the race has come to an end. The course closure at TA2 at Pinllopata, was originally scheduled for 8am on Monday morning, as stated on the race summary and route book.
Nevertheless, after evaluating the delay of all the teams according to the estimated time for leg #2, the organization decided to extend the time to 12pm. During this extra time the only team to arrive to TA2 was #51 Equivida, the all-male team, who decided not to continue with the trekking stage and call it a day, this was the end of their race.
After this 12pm time extension, team #3 Kia Motors-Login-Uniq arrived and finished their competition at TA2 in Pinllopata as well. We are currently waiting for the rest of the Adventure teams to arrive to TA2 at Pinllopata, their new finish line. Therefore, for all the Adventure Teams, Huairasinchi Movistar 2019 will finish at ZT2 at Pinllopata today Monday June 10th.
