A Struggle For Teams In The Highlands
Press Release / 12.06.2019
Leg#3 a 62km trek at altitude really tested the teams. At nightfall, the teams faced an area of wild highland, where they began to have difficulties with the weather and navigation. Rain, snow and fog hindered navigation, to such an extent that many competitors preferred to stop and rest.
This leg took all teams longer than planned, and due to the route’s adversities some teams got lost, faced cold weather and lack of food. So far only three teams have managed to get out of this leg. Leading the competition is team # 03 Columbia Vidaraid who passed through TA3 in Zumbahua and are already on leg 4 - 130kms of mountain biking.
Following the leader are teams # 07 Life Adventure/Imptek and # 02 Movistar Terra Aventura, who passed through TA3 and have started the MTB leg. The other expedition teams are still on the trekking route, where the scarce signal has made it difficult for the organization to know exactly where they are located. Team # 01 Estonian Ace Adventure, who until the beginning of the third leg led the competition have taken a wrong turn.
Teams # 22 Changan Lexalia Lawyers, # 30 Guambras Imptek and # 14 Haku continue the race on a short course and arrived in Angamarca where they made a transition to mountain bike.
