Burn AR Heads For Margam Country Park
Press Release / 28.09.2019
The Burn Adventure Race is one of the only adventure races in the UK where you won’t be on the road at all. Our MTBO is 100% on forestry trails, single track and in the mountains. This year you’ll be exploring the forestry commission behind the beautiful 850 acre Margam Country Park near Swansea in South Wales which links to Afan Bike Park. Here you’ll have the chance to ride some of the single tracks with out strategically places check point.
The Burn Race begins at 9am with a 10Km All Terrain Run which is fully sign posted. There will be steep assents and descents which were loved last year by our competitors! The current female record for this stands at 48 mis 14 secs and the male record at 45 mins 35 secs
Following the run there will be a transition at the event centre into our kayaks, which we provide all ready for you to paddle. The lake at Margam is only small and so two loops measuring 1km will give you a quick blast and freshen up on the water before you start the next phase which is a short 5 check point foot orienteering stage covering approximatly 2km . You will be given your map once you’ve finished your kayak.
You’re then onto your mountain bike for the rest of the event in search of 10 check points covering approximately 40km.
With a mass start you’ll have 6 hours to complete the full course. Last year Jeremy Holmes won the race completing the course in 4hrs, 38 mins 47 secs.
AND THAT’S NOT ALL…..
I’m guessing many of you have families who stand on the side line and watch you race. We’ll this time why not get them racing too in our Mini Burn Adventure Race.
The best thing about it is, if you’re up for a mega challenge then you’ll have time to do both.
The Mini Burn is geared towards families with young children. We have categories for families with children under 10yrs old and over 10yrs old and there is no upper or lower age limit. In the past we’ve had a 3yr old and a 73yr old compete.
The Mini Burn begins with a fully sign-posted 3km flat run, followed by the 1km kayak, a 10km mountain bike (all fully sign-posted) and then finishes off with the 2km foot orienteering phase. It is run in a very informal manor with staggered start times. The first competitors set off at 10am and the average time to complete the course is 2 hours.
Everyone who completes the Mini Burn course will receive a medal and we have fabulous trophies for the winning families to take home to show off at their schools!
Again we provide everything you need for the kayaking and all you need to bring is a bike.
ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT TO GO UNTIL RACE DAY and ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT OT ENTER!
