Hugo Tormento (Fra) _ Max Andersson (Swe) Win Their Fourth In A Row At Ötillö World Series Gothenburg!
Press Release / 11.08.2022
What speed and what action!
Today, the Southern Archipelago outside the city of Gothenburg was the arena for the Swimrun World Series. Four weeks ago it was the Swiss mountains of the Engadin Valley. What unites these two very opposites is the incredible speed the top teams hold along the course and the fact that Hugo Tormento (FRA) & Max Andersson (SWE) win again. In the Mixed category Desirée Andersson & Alexander Berggren (SWE) won a fierce chase to the end and in the Womens category Ulrika Eriksson & Hanna Skårbratt (SWE) raced ahead of the rest of the field.
As this race is four (4) weeks before the World Championship it was the last chance for some teams to qualify and a chance for other teams to sharpen their game.
The World Series race had to be changed due to massive waves, wind and dangerous conditions. Instead the course became two loops on the Sprint course. This resulted in a total of 37 km between the islands of Styrsö and Vrångö to mention some of the islands. In total there was 33 run sections on and 32 swim sections between the islands.
In the Mens category Hugo Tormento (FRA) & Max Andersson (SWE) they set the tone right away and pushed away. In mixed the top three teams in the world were present. From the start gun these three teams pushed hard to try to make a break. In the Womens category was more for the second and third place as the leaders made a break early. The speed on land, in some very technical terrain at times is mind-boggling and the in the water all the top racers swim like torpedoes. For some of the holiday- makers in the archipelago it must have been spectacular to see.
In the end the end Hugo & Max took a comfortable win. Showing why they will be hard to beat at the World Championship.
In mixed the top three teams stayed together within seconds for half of the race. After that the current World Champion Desirée Andersson & Alexander Berggren (SWE) started to pull away taking an impressive second place overall!
In the Women's race Ulrika Eriksson & Hanna Skårbratt (SWE) - Team Stena Recycling - dominated their race and are now positioning themselves as favorites for the World Championship on September 5th.
