Day One at the 20th Czech Adventure Race
Dejna Odvody / 25.08.2023
The Czech Adventure Race – the 20th edition - started on Thursday morning in West Bohemia with a short running prologue. Then teams set out on their bikes for the first MTB stage (60 km) which included climbing and abseiling to break up the stage.
During the afternoon most teams finished the 30km trekking stage and at sunset climbed into their canoes and paddled back to meet their bikes. Unfortunately there is already one team who continues incomplete: Bertine from the Dutch team ’Wayward‘ partialy strained ligaments in her ankle the first evening and had to go to hospital. Her team mate Sjoerd just a few hours before her injury hit a red car standing on the road while riding and watching the map. Sjoerd is OK but the SKODA car has a dent on its roof made by the chin of this 2m high racer. (The owner called police and received a fine for improper parking.)
The hot weather is making the race even more difficult and after the first day we count the gaps between teams in hours. Castle CPs at CZAR is a granted thing - because they are often built on the hills.
Leading teams Team Czech, Swiss-Italian-Czech Team Alpha Adventure and Czech SK Kylešovice OpavaNet finished their first canoe stage before midnight and returned into TA2 but the race is still in its initial phase and nothing is set: Marco from Alpha has some stomach ache and needs a rest. A team member from Kylešovice was stung by hornet in TA2 and Dutch Direction member reports pain in his wrist.
We expect the winning team in the finish line on Saturday morning.
