“We could not find CP6, and then we had trouble again finding CP14 and CP15. We are used to different kinds of maps, she continues. “At home we use 1-25,000 maps and here it is 1-50,000, and we are not used to that, especially with so much up and down. Holland is very … like this, she says, laying her hand flat and level with the ground.
The team cycled into the TA and had planned on staying for a while, maybe eating and sleeping a bit before tackling what they thought would be a six to eight hour (45 kilometres) paddle down the Arahura River in the sea kayaks. Turns out there was a slight miscalculation in the guide book, and the paddle would in fact only take about three and a half to four hours.
“This is interesting, now we must talk and have a coffee and eat a bit and decide what to do.
In fact, the Dutch team barely stopped at the transition area at all. They were quickly on their bikes and off to the river. They are expected to cross the finish line sometime later tonight or in the wee small hours of Friday morning.
