Teams then rode mountain bikes along fire trails to Lane Cove National Park and then paddled down the Lane Cove River to Blackman Park to collect another orienteering map. After navigating around Blackman Park and running along the Great North Walk back to the National Park Headquarters teams then had a short ride, run and final ride to the finish.
In the mixed category 1st went to Orienteers do it in the bush, 2nd was Blueedge and 3rd was Fugahwe. In the female category Hoot-Hers put in a great performance to not only win the category but to also finish 6th overall -watch out! The 2nd placed female
team was Queens of the Wild Frontier and 3rd was the Streakers. The Julbo sunnies Happy Pants award went to the Whistlepops who were wearing lycra cross-country ski suits and Dame Edna glasses. They bribed judges with whistlepop lollies and then entertained the crowd at the finish with race stories.
The youngest competitor was 11 years old and the oldest 77. Man this is a great sport! It was also the toughest AROC for the whole season with a few rough MTB sections, a short hike-a-bike section and nearly 14km on foot. Teams chose great prizes from Sea to Summit, Solution, Berghaus, Princeton Tec, Bike Addiction and Julbo sunglasses. The event capped off a really successful season with a whole new crowd of people now addicted to the AROC adventures and a healthy appreciation of how much fun you can have playing in the outdoors. Look out for next season!!
