X-adventure - The Raid World Cup 2005
The Race Route
John Michael-Flynn / 29.04.2005

In terms of scenery it’s sure to be captivating as competitors paddle across magnificent coastal inlets, mountain bike through old growth forests and scale vertical cliffs. But the big question is will competitors get the chance to stop and enjoy the views?
“It looks phenomenal, it’s beautiful, was the first reaction of AROC-Mountain Designs team captain Alina McMaster. “It looks like it should be quite fun.
A biased Australian opinion perhaps, but with 9 stages of mountain biking, canoeing, adventure running and climbing traversing many of South-Western Australia’s most spectacular locations, race one of the X-Adventure Raid World Cup is certain to be visually spectacular.
The race is broken into two days, beginning at 6am Saturday with a 94 kilometre mountain bike ride, followed by 14 kilometres of canoe paddling, 18 kilometres of running and to finish the day, another 74 kilometre mountain bike ride.
Sunday sees a 1.20a.m. start, where bleary eyed competitors (if they get any sleep at all?) will take to the water for 8 kilometres of canoeing, before embarking on a 41 kilometre trek, punctuated with a technical rock climb on an exposed coastal cliff face.
Following that will be 14 kilometres of canoeing, before the race ends in the coastal port town of Albany with a 3.5 kilometre run.
