Preparing for what in adventure racing terms is considered a ‘sprint format’ event, teams across the board were admitting to pre-race jitters as they reached the start-line, including the big name New Zealand lineup of Team Seagate.
“It looks like we’ve got pretty good conditions today, it’s pretty warm already so should be a nice comfortable temperature for racing, Seagate’s Richard Ussher told SleepMonsters as he studied the race map by helmet light.
“Course looks pretty cool, taking us through some beautiful countryside, should be a few interesting things there, looks like we’re going through the Valley of the Giants.
U.S. team Golite Timberland had more issues on its hands, with key team member Billy Mattison still struggling with a head cold and team-mate Isaac Wilson also admitting to being under-the-weather, following a week of travelling.
