Seagate Are The Winners

The jubilant kiwis crossed the finish line at 3.00pm this afternoon, with team captain Kristina Anglem paying tribute to the efforts of her male team-mates Richard Ussher, George Christison and Marcel Hagener, who held of a spirited fightback by the French.

“As Edmund Hillary once said; we knocked the bastard off,� a triumphant Anglem told SleepMonsters upon crossing the finish line.

“It’s the first time we’ve raced with this combination, it’s just great racing with these fellas, they’re such good mates and good team-mates.

Les Arcs Quechua were still close enough by race end to have kept the kiwis on their toes during the final 3.5 kilometre beach run. The French were left to wonder what might have been, had they not taken a wrong turn during yesterday’s second mountainbike leg.

The Frenchmen pegged back close to ten minutes during this morning’s leg sapping running stages, but in the end, Seagate’s lead from day one was too much to reel in.

Australia’s AROC/Mountain Designs team, which excelled in the canoe paddles of this event, crossed the line in third place.
