A Welcome for the Teams

They were stunned by a great slideshow and short video of previous races displayed by the media crew. It was just a little glimpse of what they had gotten themselves into and a promise of the fantastic scenery and adventures to come.
After this all the teams were invited into a beautiful lounge overlooking the city of Punta Arenas at the Hotel Finis Terrae, where they enjoyed a nice cocktail and snacks. After this most teams went back to their hostels to prepare mentally and physically for the next days programme. Some went out to enjoy a little stroll in downtown Punta Arenas and others were invited to a local TV channel for an interview.
The U.S. team Feed the Machine had showed great humor and are extremely happy to be here in Patagonia. One thing team captain Christian Burke told me earlier was that they are focusing on finishing the race, position doesn’t matter, all they want is to enjoy Patagonia and get to the finish line on their own.
Although the best thing about this race is that whatever position they make take will still be in the top 5! Yes, this year there will only be 5 teams in competition due to injuries and the logistical problems of making it to Patagonia. Let us hope all those who had to pull out can all make it next year for the 1000k race ...
