The 2 Steves: On the up?
Steve D / 14.10.2002
Appearances, like Phil Humphreys, can be deceptive... are TNF-Kona actually doing any better than they were 24-hours ago?
In much the same way that the aforementioned Mr H. is a master of confusing and misleading the keenest of navigators, so scoreboards are great at painting the wrong picture - it may look like Van Gogh\'s Sunflowers from the Eco site, but the reality could be closer to Munch\'s Scream.
So what is going on? Well, maybe the guys managed an Earthlink-style charge up the rankings, but have drained themselves in the process and will pay for it today...or possibly they have been front-loading with sleep and are taking out teams who\'ve been pushing on too hard. Whatever the reasons, it\'s encouraging - and with a lot of paddling to come in the latter stages they may be better placed than most teams to make a late dash. However, that\'s still a long way off and I ain\'t holding my breath...
Outside the top 35 or so things are looking grim - three CPS in three days just isn\'t fast enough, and I expect to see the two straggling UK teams on a short course sooner rather than later. My predictions still stand, although I expect Mr Cheery to pop up any minute and inform us that TNF is going to win the race by a record margin...
