Eco-Challenge
XL Lupus UK are out of the Race
Rob / 15.10.2002
Bad news from day 5 of the race – one of the British teams, XL Lupus UK are out of this year’s Eco-Challenge – their dream is over.
In what is the toughest Eco-Challenge ever they made it CP5, the end of first kayaking stage, and set off into the jungle again mid-morning, but that was the end of the line. They must have returned to the CP to retire from the race, though we don’t know why at this stage. (Most likely injury or exhaustion.) They are now one of 18 teams unranked or disqualified.
After all their training and preparation, and all they’ve been through together in Fiji the decision to stop must have been a heart rending one, especially as they have covered only a third of the course. As they are show ‘disqualified’ (which is a very harsh word – withdrawn would have been better) it means they have all pulled out together. If just one team member can’t go on – the other 3 do have the option to continue ‘unranked’ , but it looks like they started and finished their adventure together.
If any of the team’s families are reading this and get a call from Fiji please let us know how the team are. Just email news@SleepMonsters.com
