Costa Rica: Between two Continents, Between two Oceans
An Interview with Race Director Andres Vargas
Corey Rosen / 10.04.2006

Why is this race so different from other Adventure Races?
Andres: This will be a very demanding race, racers will have to bring the very best of themselves and make crucial decisions without the backing of team members. No one will be there to back them up when making mistakes, no one will be there to lend a hand when rolling down the hill or when their spirits are low, it will be a test to the best.
Why do you think the secretive nature of the course is better than allowing racers to know what\'s ahead of them?
Andres: It adds an obstacle that racers will have to overcome, it\'s all about strategy.
Without revealing anything necessary to the race, what can you tell us about this course?
Andres: Fast and Explosive! Kayaking against currents that would immediately defeat an amateur, mountain biking in terrains that vary from high cold, rainy roads down to extremely hot dusty roads, having to carry their bikes in some sections where the heat is almost unbearable. Trekking will be one of the most difficult disciplines of the race, more than 100 kilometers of trekking in three sections with one section including 70 kilometers of muddy trails, bushwhacking, rivers, canyons and waterfalls.
