The 2 Steves: Jungle Rot

Wanted…New Feet! After finally getting some sleep following Team The North Face Kona’s last gasp Eco finish in Fiji, captain Keith Byrne sent a brief message last night to say that it was an incredible race and that he now needs some new feet!
Jungle is undoubtedly the harshest environment for racers’ feet as the constant wetness and humidity link up with countless river crossings, steep terrain and a tortuous lack of established trails to reduce feet to pulp…leaving them susceptible to infection and fungal growths!
Keith has never really suffered with his feet before, even during 12 days of racing in Eco Borneo, so if his feet need replacing then Anna’s feet may well have been a real problem for her, as she has suffered much with them over the last year or so. In the Raid in Vietnam earlier this year, her feet were described as the worst the medics had ever seen.
Sore feet or not, the team has been partying it up in Fiji and Keith promised to let us know the full monty on their race experience later today. Those of a frail nature beware…it could be a gory tale of glory.
P.S. Big congrats to our USUK buddy from Eco Borneo, Dave Christian from Team Go Oxiclean, who rounded off his third consecutive Eco by proposing to his girlfriend Jess at the finish. I can’t believe he made Jess endure sitting through three epic races to earn his hand in marriage!!
[A few other messages are coming through as well - Anna\'s feet were the worst and they had some stomach ailments towards the end - but apparantly Norm was fine!! They repeated the comment of other teams about all the help the Fijians gave them to help them get round and said it was a fantastic race. They finished 10th. - Rob]
