Ski Lift Anyone?

The 14th Edition of the Endorphin Fix began at 11:00pm last night instead of the traditional Midnight start. After the last of the pre-run was completed, Ronny Angell and Joy Marr, (Race Director and Course Designer), chose to give racers an additional hour to make race course cutoffs. This completely new course in Canaan Valley, WV will take racers over 130 miles with 17,000’ of elevation gain in 41 hours. “This is an ambitious task,� said Ronny, “and competitors will need to travel virtually non-stop in order to make the cut-offs and complete the course officially.� The race brief and course reveal left little doubt that this year’s Fix would live up to its reputation as being the toughest 2-Day Race in the country.

11:00pm Starting Line: Bear Paw Lodge
Prologue: retrieve 2 PPs on ski slopes: Timber Spur (Grn) & MidStation (Blue/Blk Diamond) carrying only water, radio, & med kit.
4 Soloists, 10 Teams of 2, and 13 Teams of 4 charged straight up the slopes in the drizzling rain after two Orienteering points. Upon their return, teams hopped on their bikes for the first leg of 66 miles that would take them from some of the lowest points crossing streams up to West Virginia’s highest peak, Spruce Knob.
The Endorphin Fix is a totally unsupported race. This demanding event will help teams prepare and hone their skills for races like the Beast of the East and the Primal Quest. Teams are responsible for all of their food, water, and are required to carry all of their gear the entire race.
