The Three Peaks Yacht Race
Team Web Sites
Rob Howard / 16.06.2006
Each year more and more teams produce their own websites and this year there are several sites which give an insight into the personalities of the teams, and an idea of the preparation and training that goes into a 3 Peaks Yacht Race entry. For dedication you can’t beat the team on Laura – skipper Richard Stain has spent 6 years building the Sovereign 400 which was only launched last year. There are pictures of the construction on the site and the team have even had time to write a special race sea shanty! (The words are on the site but you’ll have to make up your own tune.)

Journey Maker 5’s website shows just how hard this team have been training. There is a detailed training log of all their running and sailing over the past 6 months with various milestones passed, like completing a first marathon and overcoming injury. It also includes details of how the boat was prepared (including setting up oars) and of their course recces.
Elsewhere on the site there is information on their charity fundraising for the Bendrigg Trust which provides opportunities for disabled young people to try outdoor activities.

Abbeydale Moonshine’s site has detailed team information and some good photos the Reflex 38 in action, plus an account of their race last year. Their sponsors are a malt loaf company, a fell running shoe company … and the Abbeydale brewery! The boat is named after a beer.
