Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge
A Last Hurrah In Hobart
10.11.2006

Competitors were pushed to their final limits throughout the day, to reach the various checkpoints at iconic landmarks in-and-around Hobart.
Triple AFL Premiership player, Alistair Lynch and Discovery Team cyclist, Matthew White joined the competitors in what was mainly a fun end to the gruelling competition.
“It was tough but fun. The last time I came close to doing this much exercise in one day, was two years ago, said Lynch. “Taking to the water in a kayak was unfamiliar territory for me, I got very wet, but I got through it.
In a day which saw competitors traverse the city by foot, mountain bike, and kayak; zoom about on scooter; weave their way through a maze of kids, and even complete a 3-legged race; the most unusual sight of the day was found in Hobart’s Elizabeth Street Mall, where ‘King Boonie’, a.k.a. legendary Aussie cricketer and local hero, David Boon, was waiting to ‘knight’ competitors with a famous Boonie mo.
Boon said; “Watching the teams trying to find me in the mall was great fun. I was dressed up as a king, so I stuck out a bit. When they found me, I knighted the team captains with my trademark mo, so there are now heaps of fake Boonies running around Hobart.
