The Costa Rica Coast to Coast Challenge Race
Aventuras de Sarapiquà paddles in for third place
Jacqueline Windh / 18.03.2007

As expected, they arrived in exceptional shape. They’ve had the foot care down for this whole race, none of them with barely a blister at all. And they are all strong paddlers, so no issues there either.
Pongo thanked the handful of us who had got up to greet them, and as we all chatted and listened to race stories, team Aditec staggered out from the next cabin to greet their mates. Even though most Costa Rican racers cannot afford to race out of their own country, AR is a big sport here with a tight community of some really strong racers. These two teams together contain some of Costa Rica’s top athletes, and these guys have raced both with one another and against one another for years.
We expect to see Dark Horse (USA, unranked) paddle in this evening – they were at Parasmina, about 6o km south of here, at 10am. The last two teams, Mundo Aventura-Thule (CR) and BCR-Forza (CR, unranked) made it to the river camp last night so should have started rafting at 6:00 this morning. If all goes well with them, we hope to see them here tomorrow morning – just before we all pack up and head back to San José for the prize ceremony. In the meantime, everyone here is fully enjoying our tropical vacation (yes, with monkeys hooting in the trees above!) – between the beach and the ocean and the pool, the biological tours being offered, and the abundant good food and icy cervezas.
