Raffertys Wrap Up

It ended up being a huge event sold out at 140 teams. There was plenty of variety and for the top teams an extra 25km mountain bike rogaine at the end. At that pointy end of the teams there was some real battles with the lead changing constantly between the Ultimax Stingers (NSW Orienteer Rob Preston, all rounder Richard Mountstephens and 24 hour MTB legend Katrin van der Spiegel); Canberra team Adrenalin Adventure TerraX (Steve Dowlan, Matt Koerber, Wayne Bradbury) and City Bike Depot (Christie Sym, Hugh Stodart, Simon Manson). Local team Top Shelf (Stu Adams, Chad Singleton, Shane Gibbs) were also giving the front teams a run for their money.

There were 10 teams that made it to the bonus leg – a MTB point score section. It was here that City Bike Depot came unstuck, pushing just a little too hard to get a couple of extra checkpoints and arriving back 10 minutes late. It was a cruel blow as the rules stated that any team late back on the bonus leg lost all their bonus points!

In the end it was the Ultimax Stingers who won the event followed by Adrenalin Adventure TerraX, Top Shelf and then Pot, Stick and Power Ranger (also 2nd mixed team). The 3rd place Mens team were myworkspace.com.au (have a look at how they clawed their way back after their bike problem in the first leg). The 3rd place mixed team was Awesome Bruce.
