The Caribbean Sea was the focus of the day.

The Caribbean Sea was the focus of the day. But the challenges were far from the usual! Today’s challenges were all new experiences, designed by the organizers to give racers a full sample of the palate of experience that this island has to offer. USA team Timberland’s Chris Boyd explained: “It’s like going on a one-week vacation where you want to do it all. And then finding 59 other like-minded people to do it with you!
The six challenges of the day were: surfing, wind-surfing, a 'hunt' (explained below), ecological snorkelling, golf, and a discovery rally.
I got out on the press boat to witness the surfing and wind-surfing, and this was an absolutely great example of what AR racers do best: tackle new challenges with great attitude. On the wind-surfing, Spanish captain Antonio de la Rosa explained “We got 6 points (out of a possible 40). I managed to do just one lap. But one other team who did a lap got 8 points –maybe they had good style. You get 4 points anyway, just for trying. We were out on the water later, to see the Russians struggling to stand up, and Ireland’s Vanessa Lawrenson get drifted past the buoy then dunked into the water only to realize how shallow it actually was. She valiantly dragged her board and sail, walking in the chest-deep water, around the buoy. She even managed a second lap, and shouted at our press boat to get out of the way as she beelined to the buoy.
