Oman Adventure Race
Prologue to 6-day event today
11.12.2007
Prologue, Sunday December 9, 2007This morning the 3rd Oman Adventure was started by Gérard FUSIL, in the presence of Sheik Ali Mohamed al SHIDI, personal representative of Oman’s Minister of Sports Affairs and Mr. Salem el MASROURI, member of the Sultanate of Oman’s Sports Events Organising Committee. The race started at exactly 10 a.m., from in front of the A Na’aman citadel, where contestants had arrived the night before, for the first bivouac of the trial.
Competitors raced towards the sea, running a total distance of three kilometres. Although the prologue was really a test of speed rather than endurance, the fact that it was run in the full heat of the sun meant that it was easy to see the teams’ relative readiness to compete. Only one team, Team 74, AIGLE SYBELLES ESF, managed to finish in under 12 minutes, achieving an average of nearly fifteen kph! Three more teams came in just one minute later, while the last crossed the finishing line more than 6 minutes after the winner.
The first stage of Oman Adventure 2007 will set off at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. Following the prologue’s short, « taster » race, the main bike and run event will take teams into the stupendous heights of the mountains of Oman. That’s when the twenty two competitors will really have to get down to business.
