The Usshers won’t be here after all, as Richard is recovering from a virus

Most of the teams have gathered here in Fall’s Creek, in Australia’s high country – we’re expecting the last few in tomorrow morning. The drive up here was lovely, first heading south up a valley with open pastureland, then taking a narrow road that ascends steeply through gum forest, with lots of tight switchbacks, to arrive at this ski village situated at 1550 m elevation.

We’ve just received the news that the Usshers won’t be here after all, as Richard is recovering from a virus. However, the Kiwis will still be the ones to beat at this race, with some of the strongest teams in the field:

- in the men’s category Team Adventuresportnz.com, Gordon Walker (2007 champion, along with Richard Ussher) who this year is competing with Chris Forne, and in the mixed category; as well as the Orionhealth.com Boys (Brent Edwards, Wayne Oxenham)

- in the mixed category, AtenahMerrell NZ (Nora Audra, Ian Edmond), who won the mixed pairs category last year, and Orionhealth.com Mixed (Anna Berthelsen, Stuart Lynch).
