From the cave, teams biked a series of tracks and trails to a winding series of estuaries, where they paddled out to the sea. The first part of the paddle was very calm, but in places with shallow sand bars that had them walking their boats over sections. The sand bar across the entrance is completely closed off, so they then had to portage the boats a few hundred metres to the surf.
