The Coast to Coast Challenge – 2008
Update from a Remote Location
M. Lane / 26.04.2008

Bike issues affected Tom Smith of Dark House (a broken derailer 20km from TA #2) but the good news is Roy Malone of Bones is willing a lend his bike for the upcoming Stage 4 and the gear is ready to roll.
Stage 3 is a trek over 50km long and it is aimed to encourage the exporation of the indigenenous trail & peoples. Navigation borders Barbilla National Park and leads to a community center & elementary schools at Cien Monzanas.
The teams navigate with a given narrative; a story of two friends along with photo images as landmarks. These indigenous settlements are unique as there is a distinctive culture, physical features and spoken language, Cabecar.
A race tradition is followed here as each team provides 1-2kg of supplies to two remote schools. (Costa Ricans value education. Te army was abolished in 1948 since when the country has dedicated it\'s funds to education rather than defense.)
The school children were delightful and inquisitive and as teams arrived they watched them perform transitions. They were also eager to observe our dedicated MD, Manuel perform a quick medical visit to each team member entering the TA.
More news to follow soon.
