Ussher lined up with about 1,550 competitors for the Anaconda Adventure Race which kicked off at Old Dunsborough Boat Ramp at 7:30 am. The conditions were perfect for the race with mild temperature and no wind.
The WA Anaconda Adventure Race was the biggest adventure race in the world in terms of the number of competitors. The 52 km course included ocean swimming, ocean kayaking, coastal and trail running and mountain biking.
Ussher finished in a time of 3 hours and 55 minutes, only five minutes in front of Perth resident Sean O’Neill and 15 minutes before Melbourne-based athlete Jarad Kohlar.
“The standard of adventure racing is increasing year after year, so it is always keeping me on my toes,� Ussher said.
“Geographe Bay is definitely one of the most beautiful places to race in the world,� he added.
Sydney-based athlete Christie Sym took the women’s title finishing in 4 hours and 48 minutes. She was closely followed by Kirsty Holmes from the Sunshine Coast (QLD) and Deanna Blegg from Melbourne.
In the teams category, Team Shotz from Karrinyup (WA) maintained its lead through the race to cross the finish line in a course record of 3 hours and 35 minutes.
