Land Rover G4 Challenge UK Selections
Going for Gold in the challenge of a lifetime
Press Release / 01.12.2008

Victoria provided motivational guidance to 60 competitors as they were put through their paces over a gruelling 3-day selection of adventure racing and off road driving, at Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire, culminating in 4 UK finalists being selected to represent the UK.
The UK finalists - top two men and two women - Bruce Duncan, Andrew Grieve, Sarah Davies and Maria Leijerstam battled it out in a series of activities including kayaking, mountain biking, abseiling and off road driving to secure their place at the Land Rover G4 Challenge International Selections. One man and one woman from the final four will then go on to represent the UK in the Challenge Finals in Mongolia in 2009.
Victoria on announcement of the winners said “The final four are truly exceptional athletes who excelled in the 51 challenges they completed over the course of the UK National Selections. The competitors were pushed to their limits both physically and mentally with a series of driving, physical, navigation and initiative tests. Having competed on the International stage, I know only too well how nerve wracking competing at this level can be and I have no doubt that these four have the ability to take on the other 17 nations they will be competing against.
The Land Rover G4 International Selections take place in February 2009, where the final four will be whittled down to the one man and one woman to make up team UK for the three-week Challenge Finals in Mongolia.
The UK duo will compete against 17 other teams in one of the most sparsely populated countries on the planet. With a blend of terrain offering arid steppes, mountains and the extreme climate of one of the world's largest deserts, the Gobi, makes Mongolia the ultimate test.
Anthony Bradbury, UK Marketing Director said: “The standard of athletes competing at the UK National Selections this year were by far the most experienced and strongest we’ve ever had. The Challenge Finals in Mongolia are set to be truly spectacular and we wish Andrew, Bruce, Sarah and Maria every success for the next stage.
The 2008/09 Land Rover G4 Challenge programme is run in support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This partnership aims to generate in excess of £1m over the course of the next two challenges. The winning team will receive a Land Rover to donate to their National Society.
