The race had been split into 4 starts, the novice course started on their bikes at Raffertys, while the Classic course had 3 starts 10 mins apart, no ranking just alphabetically split. Their start was at Murrays Beach, each start had to contend with an early morning plunge (wade) into Lake Macquarie, the teams of 3 had to collect an object from each of 3 bouys floating 20 ¡V 40 m off shore, (this varied depending what they were moored too) so it made sense that teams would split and collect one item per member.
There after ensued a Q & A test around Murrays Beach answering Qs located at CPs A , B, C, and so on to V, it was made clear that teams had to visit all CPs together. This avoided teams joining forces and getting 4 or 5 each and pooling resources (hey last year they didn¡¦t say you couldn¡¦t do itƒº ), on returning to the TA it was a bike leg to CP 1, 2 and 3, via trails and across the highway to the coast and TA 2/3, here the heavens opened, CPs 1 and 2 had been doubled up to avoid and congestion but this never occurred, it seems the early swim may have seperated teams enough.
