Dark and White Off to a Sunny Series Start

Round 1 of the 2009 series of Adventure Races run by Dark & White Events was a 4 hour mountain biking/running/orienteering event starting and finishing in the Capital of the Peak, Chapel-en-le-Frith.

The weather was stunning, absolutely perfect for racing and with lots of eager faces in evidence, competitors on the start line were handed two maps and all relevant event details. The biking comprised 17 controls on a 1:50000 OS map section out to the north and west of Chapel and the running involved 2 controls on the OS map and a further 18 controls to get their teeth into in the superbly runnable orienteering course in Lyme Park. The transition point from bike to run was at the lofty point of Bowstonegate just to the south of Disley, this gave easy access into Lyme Park for the running.

The biking area is really quite rough and hilly in places and this caught quite a few competitors out as they arrived at the run transition point somewhat behind their planned schedule and thereafter failed to take advantage of the hatful of points up for grabs on the running phase. By the time the return to Chapel on the bike was in progress the weather was warm & sunny and energy levels were going down rapidly! There was no shortage of lateness penalty points being handed out at the finish……

However there were also plenty of great performances and class winners were as follows:
