Adventure Race Slovenia 2009
Seventh edition of Adventure Race Slovenia starts today
20.06.2009

All the preparations for 7th edition of the Adventure Race Slovenia began several months before the actual start date for the race. Organising a race of this importance every year is a great challenge for the organizing committee. Even though organising the race has become almost routine, there are new challenges each and every time. There are always new things that we could make better, new things where something can go wrong and new things that make each year’s event unique. We hope we fulfill the expectations of our competitors. Every year we are trying to make race better and we do listen to the requests of competitors that help us achieve these goals.
After introducing two categories in last year’s race, we’ve decided to keep this good practice and did it again this year. It paid off, with a greater number of teams in both categories: Rover, the shorter one and Explorer, the longer one. The Rover track this year is 200 km long and Explorer track is 320 km long. Another good practise of last year’s race was that Start and Finish were not at same location. This offers a great opportunity of more diverse landscape and shows more nice parts of our small country to competitors.
Explorer category:
The start was at 10.03am at the edge of Ljubljana, the Slovenian capitol. The track started with trekking to the Hills of Polhov Gradec, where they had special orienteering. In Polhov Gradec there was a start of MTB stage through the rest of the Hills of Polhov Gradec and all the way to the Kranj. They continued the section, in the middle of which there was another novelty - GPS orienteering. Continuing on by kayak teams reached Zbilje lake where another stage of trekking started towards the hill of Rasica, where teams had rope descending, then continuing with the trekking towards Menges, where the bikes were again ready for the competitors. Riding the bikes towards KamniÅ¡ko Savinjske Alps, team reached the pass of Črnivec. This is how far the first teams of Explorer category came on the first day of the race.
