Kiwi Team Wins First Leg

<b>IPOH, PERAK. December 1, 2009</b> – New Zealanders Stephen Farrell and Grant Schofield competing under the team name "Opus Fit For Fun" won the first leg of the inaugural Perak Amanjaya International Eco Adventure 2009 at Banding - Royal Belum today.The duo beat 15 other international teams from 15 countries and emerged winners in the five disciplines of running, swimming, kayaking, mountain biking and abseiling with a time of 2 hours 45 minutes and 23 seconds. The competitors covered a total of 26 kilometres for the race today.
The second spot was won by the combined team of Chiru Racing Bikers comprising Pierre Araud Le Magnan from France and Mark Thirwall from Australia. They came in soon after the leaders with a time of 2 hours 47 minutes and 47 seconds.
Third placing went to Team Asia Pacific Adventure (Ryan Blair and Damian Gonzalez) from the United States of America. They clocked in at 2 hours 48 minutes and 24 seconds.
The Malaysian team comprising Moh Puzi Dolah and Heidilee Mohammad under the name of Salomon TLDM came in sixth spot with a timing of 2:52:03, eight minutes behind the leaders.
The super athletes will be moving to Taiping – Kuala Sepetang, for the second leg tomorrow where they will be tested in trekking, abseiling, mountain-biking, canoeing and running. They are expected to cover a distance of 60 kilometres.
The Perak Amanjaya International Eco Adventure 2009 was officially flaged off by Perak Raja Muda, Raja Nazrin Sultan Azlan Shah at the Royal Belum Forest Resort this morning.
Organised by Institut Darul Ridzuan, the five day international event is scheduled from 2–6 December, 2009 and has the support of the State Government of Perak and is expected to become an annual event in its tourism calendar.
