Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race 2010
Back To Defend The Title
Bruce Duncan - Team Helly Hansen Prunesco / 09.02.2010
Team Helly Hansen Prunesco are back in Patagonia to defend the title they won last year, and with the added pressure of being World Champions, although only one of the team, Nic MacLeod was in the World Championship winning team. Bruce Duncan tell us about their final preparations. So here we are, on the eve of the 2010 WPER. The kit has been checked, we have had our skills test, in which Andy and Bruce managed to succesfully roll the kayak, for the first time, needless to say they were both very happy to not have to swim.
There is a good atmosphere amongst the racers, lots of new faces, but it has been great seeing all the old faces too. It is a funny feeling being back here and with the spot light well and truely on us, as we arrived from the airport in torrential rain we had flashes going off like mad at the hotel from the press!
But all that aside, we have prepped well for this, we have got heavier weight clothing and tents and sleeping bags. Our food shopping was huge, and carrying the bags to the race organisiers earlier was tough, so we should have enough to keep us going on the epic treks ahead.
The teams all look good, and now can´t wait to get going. Nicola is worried about her hair though, she didn´t bring a comb! Mark is sniffleing away still, but should be fine. Andy is just wideeyed thinking what is he doing back here, and Bruce is steadily eating his way through all the restaurants in town!
We hope to have fun out there, but we are here to race hard and do well, so fingers crossed for a kind race to us, and no major issues.
Thanks for the help and support of all our sponsors that have made it possible to get this far, we hope to be able to repay you well.
Bed now, sleep needs to be banked up, we won´t see a nice bed for a good week!
Ciao
