Le Grand Raid
Stage 2
Anne-Marie Dunhill / 25.06.2010

Today was a relatively easier day for teams after yesterdays nine grueling sections. After a bivuac in Arques the race started again this morning at 09:00 in the town hall square. A roller blading 6,5 km section took them through the town to a transition to the kayaks on the Aire sur la Lys. After paddling along the canal amongst large barges creating a little animation with their waves thilsa, They began a mountain biking section. On the canal the three lead teams remained Wilsa,Thule and Out There USA and they paddled together in formation.
The transition to the mountain bikes was a rapid one as teams headed into the Ohlain park. the paths were muddy and technical in places but teams whose strength is mtb were able to make up time lost on yesterdays sections. Teams were once again pleased with the scenery taken in at break neck speed.
An orienteering section followed and Phillipe Chod of Issy Adventure said that his team was glad to have a proper orienteering section and added that it was technical. The heat of the day added to the difficulty as teams headed out after the CO to another mtb section that took them to a slag heap. Teams that were not sure of the location of the CP headed straight up the steep incline, their mtb’s on their shoulders. The CP was actually between two slag heaps and race gear was stained black.
