The next morning, Sunday 5 September, Mogo woke up to pictures of devastation: trees were down all over the roads between Batemans Bay and Narooma, and power was out along most of the coast. The event marquees at the event hub had been torn apart, with paperwork and signs scattered beyond the oval. In Mogo State Forest, things were looking even worst: it was as if a cyclone had gone through the whole forest with trees shredded to pieces lying across the tracks throughout the course. There was no way to hold the original 100km or 50km event. The tracks were non-existent and trees were still threatening to fall. Road access for first aid was cut. Most sections of the course were so bad, it would have been faster without a bike and would have been a horrendous bush-bashing exercise...
