Australia's Elite take on the Dark Side

With a course that pushed every competitor to their limits and the added complexity of starting in the dark with no visual references and the challenge of managing sleep & nutrition leading up to the midnight start this event threw up some new and unique challenge for our elite racers.

In a course that covered 90km of adrenalin packed mountainous terrain with challenging navigation that included numerous route choices and was described by competitors as “a genuinely tough race� and my “hardest race ever� it was neck & neck between the four top teams including SCAR, the Mexicans, Team Mountain Designs and Rogue for much of the race.

In the end it was Kim Willcocks, David Provan & Luke Haines from Team Mexicans who after a gruelling 10hrs 51mins & 39 seconds took home the title of Mountain Designs Adventure Race Australia Dark Side Champions.

Kicking off at midnight after a hot dinner and a few hours of planning and preparation all teams headed out on foot on a demanding rogaine collecting 4 CP’s before returning to HQ to collect their bikes. Mountain Designs lead into the first transition at 2:01am with SCAR hot on their heels, the Mexicans and Rogue only a few minutes behind them at 2:07am.
