Ussher and Blegg take Race 1

The 2011 Anaconda Adventure Race National Series got under way at Forster, NSW, this weekend, with New Zealand’s multisport world champion, Richard Ussher, showing he’ll be a hard man to beat for the series title with emphatic wins on both days, despite a super strong male field.

It’s a stellar return to the Anaconda Adventure series for Ussher, one of five star athletes confirmed to compete in each remaining round (Gold Coast, Augusta and Lorne), all vying for the overall title as part of a new Top Flights category.

Ussher dominated all but the swim legs on both days, yet even in the water his performances never had him in any danger of being unable to regain the lead once his feet hit the sand.
“I’ve been working on my swimming a bit, so I knew I wouldn’t give too much away on those legs,� says Richard, whose fitness and form has also benefited from a steady calendar of endurance events in the summer lead up, including a win last weekend at Xterra NZ and in the recent NZ Multisport Championships.
