Spirit, resilience and determination. This was the recipe for the Oskalunga team to win the title of Ecomotion Pro 2011, which covered more than 600 km in the extreme south of Bahia, Brazil. After a difficult early test the team (Frederick Gall, Barbara Bonfim, Diogo Malagon and Rafael Melges) came back from 29th position to be the first to cross the finish line last Friday at 10:30am in Porto Seguro.

" We have participated in some Ecomotions, but this was our first victory. We even thought of quitting. I was bad in the first trekking stage, and Doug had a sore throat. It was complicated. But gradually we recovered and saw what was possible. We are very happy, " said an emotional Barbara.

The team only took the lead early on Friday, when they overcame Team Trotamundo in the last 107km of mountain biking. From there they only had to hold on for the final the 54 km of canoeing on the Rio Buranhem to take them back to Porto Seguro.

The title favourite, the twice champion QuasarLontra formed by Rafael Campos, Mateus Ferraz, Paul Romero and Karen Lundgren, lead for much of the time, but in the last sections, the team, especially the American duo, were greatly weakened with painful legs and feet.

Even so, the team managed to keep going until the end and finished in fourth place. "I never felt such pain as I felt here. The race was very tough," said Paul. Rafael Campos, the team captain, also said that besides the physical weakness, they also had some setbacks with breakdowns and navigation errors.

For 100 hours, 36 teams, with members from different nationalities, ventured through 600 km of trekking, mountain biking, vertical climbing, horseback riding and canoeing in the extreme south of Bahia. Of these 24 finished the shortened course, with the top places as follows;

1 – OSKALUNGA
2 - Trotamundo
3 - Curtlo Lobo Guará
4 - QuasarLontra
