Adventure Race Slovenia
Adventure Race Slovenia – Ready To Go
Press Release / 23.06.2011

This is the 9th Adventure Race Slovenia and teams from Poland, Sweden, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia are taking part. Some competitors are already old friends of the race, but some are freshmen in Slovenia. However they are all in for a fight with themselves, nature and any surprises the weather can throw at them. And tomorrow's weather forecast is not very promising, but we still hope for the best, since on Saturday the forecast looks brighter.
400 kilometres, 50 hours of non-stop adventure
The length of this year's course is approximately 400 kilometres (Explorer category) and 200 kilometres (Rover category). The choice is due to a new race concept introduced last year, where the decision of which check points to pick is entirely up to the teams, there is a lot of room for tactics. Before this concept was introduced, it wasn't possible to make such decisions, since all check point were mandatory.
Certain sectors are open only for a set time frame, after that they are closed and new ones are opened. Teams can freely pick check points inside a certain sector. They just need to be careful as there are time limits, which open and close the sector. There are more than 100 check points all together and it is theoretically impossible to reach them all, however they are there in order to enable teams to make tactical decision inside certain sectors.
Cooperation with Slovenian Armed Forces
This international adventurous project has been supported by the Slovenian Armed Forces, which is its golden partner, since the very beginning. It offers the organizer support in logistics and next to Velenje Health Centre a support in first aid medical treatments. There are also a few members of Slovenian Armed Forces who will take part in the race as competitors.
This year brigadier, major, Branimir Furlan, Commander of Slovenian Armed Forces, is a member of the honorary organizing committee. Next to Slovenian Armed Forces there are also fire fighters, divers, cavers, mountain rescuers and other local organisations supporting the race.
