Adventure Race Slovenia
Teams arrival, registration, team briefings
AR Slovenia / 24.06.2011

The teams started arriving already on Wednesday, but most of them came to Velenje on Thursday. There are 41 teams all together coming from ten different countries. The registration point was in Velenje camp, where they received all the maps of the race as well as the road books.
Afterwards there was the presentation of the race course at 3 pm, where the teams were again presented with the rules of the race and the obligatory equipment, as well as the way the race is going to be carried out.
The course for the Rover category is around 200 km long and for the, longer, Explorer category 400 km. The teams are expected to cross the finish line in Velenje in 50 hours. The race course goes through the eastern part of Slovenia, which consist of mainly lowland and hilly regions, and the northern highland part.

Opening ceremony
After the presentation of the race the teams and other guests were invited to the official opening ceremony, where the teams were welcomed and greeted, among others, by the representatives of municipality of Velenje. A mixture of music and film offered a relaxing atmosphere, which finished with the solemn oath of fair play being read out by two representatives of the competitors.
After the ceremony all the teams received their race numbers, which they will proudly wear throughout the race. The only unanswered question left was the tomorrow's weather. There were some heavy rainfalls expected, which could seriously influence the race course. The kayaking section was jeopardised.
Not knowing what exactly the new day will bring the teams went for a good night sleep, which they'll definitely miss in days to come.
