January has begun, and with it the count down to this year's Huairasinchi which also happens to be the 10th edition.

As with the previous Huairasinchi races, all the teams will race across some of the most beautiful terrain in Ecuador, a country with such mega diversity that it is possible to go from coast to Andes to Amazon throughout the race. In order to celebrate the fact that this is the 10th edition of the Huairasinchi ARWS, the organization has made a few changes to the race.

The race will be extended to four days (60 hours for the winning team). This Huairasinchi will be broadcast worldwide as part of the TV program 'Wild Racers'. Huairasinchi is one of the six races of the AR World Series chosen to feature in the series.

The schedule of the race will start with a period of acclimatization for teams that live in lowlands. All teams must be present for registration on the 17th of February after which everyone will meet for the pre-race briefing before the start of the race on the 18th.

The teams will race across over 400km on the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st of February. All teams must return to Quito on the 21st and then reconvene in the afternoon of the 22nd for the prize giving ceremony. The prizes include 5,000 USD and inscription for the ARWC in France 2012 and a trip to the Galapagos for the first place, 2,500 USD and a guaranteed spot to the ARWC in France 2012 for the second place and finally 1,500 USD for the third place.

At the moment there are 40 teams signed up, with 15 of them in the elite category. The variety of national and international teams is another aspect that has continued to grow every year and makes this race and opportunity to experience not only the cultures in Ecuador but also allows the Ecuadorian people to experience and share with visiting teams.
