The Coastal Challenge
Goerke and Hronik Take the Lead on Stage 2
Lead Media / 24.01.2012

The finish line of Stage2 at The Coastal Challenge, World's Expedition Run™ greeted Australian Damon Goerke, new overall leader of the race. Goerke was followed by Costa Rica's Roiny Villegas only a few minutes behind. Chris Barth (CAN) finished third after an excruciating day under the blistering sun of the northern territories on a stage that took racers through tropical jungle near the Arenal Volcano, cloud forest as the racers paced near the Monteverde area and dry forest as racers reached the province of Guanacaste.
As of this stage, there's a tight fight between Goerke and Villegas with only 0:11:26 difference. Barth goes to third place 1:25:10 behind Goerke.
In the girls field Keri Nelson (USA) had to drop out of the race at CP2 due to knee problems and exhaustion. This placed runners Laura Hronik in first place, Patricia Osembach in second place and Kelly Wilson in third place overall.
Nothing has been defined yet, there are four stages left on the race, over 150 kilometers remain racing the skirts of the northern volcanic range to finish near the Costa Rican border with Nicaragua.
