Huairasinchi Ecuador
Notes from the Field
Isabela Green / 05.02.2012

As we complete the final check of Huairasinchi Chevrolet 2012's route, we wish to share the most recent news and updates for this year's race. Team registration is now complete with 18 elite teams and 30 adventure teams. In the coming days we will start to receive teams such as Merrell Adventure Addicts who finished 7th in the ARWC Tasmania last year as well as Tecnu from the USA who finished 12th and team Ecuador who finished 18th. These teams were in the top 20 in the ARWC and will surely provide excellent competition though we are sure that teams like Roc Roi Trangoworld from Spain and Raid74.org/maxi-race and Lafuma Vibram from France will be worthy opponents and will provide surprises. This includes a number of local teams and teams from Costa Rica and Eastern USA.
Our organization team is ready and eager to start having tested a number of different legs of the route while doing communication and weather checks. As you surely know we have had a lot of rain recently and our trucks are covered in mud. From this we know you can deduce a little of what is in store for you.
The Australian crew 'nothinbutshorts' who produce the Wild Racers Series, will be arriving this weekend to acclimatize and prepare for Huairasinchi 2012. They will be joining the teams during various sections of the race to fully document their experience and thus must be used to Ecuador's various climate changes.
Our schedule is getting busy as our countdown continues and as such we have; a press conference this coming week for National press and then the approximate arrival of our international teams. On Friday the 17th of February 2012 we will have the team's Registration from 7 am to 1 pm and then our pre-race briefing. This will be held in Eugenio Espejo Convention Centre located in downtown Quito. The race will begin on the 18th and will finish on the 21st. On the 22nd of February we will have the prize-giving ceremony and will conclude with a celebratory party! Both of these events will be in the centre of Quito a beautiful area and the first World Heritage Site. Within walking distance of the President's Palace and the main Independence Square, everyone involved in the race will have the opportunity to visit and see some truly spectacular places – including our challenging route.
We are happy to be able to report from the field that we are ready to begin!
