Huairasinchi Chevrolet 2012 officially begun early morning on Friday 17th of February when the first teams arrived to register in the Eugenio Espejo Convention Centre. Between 7:30 am and 1:00 pm, the 49 registered teams worked their way through the 11 stages of registration some which were Obligatory Equipment and First Aid checks. At the end each team posed for the official team photograph before heading to lunch and to finish any last minute preparations. Although the day was cold and gray the enthusiasm shared by teams, organization, media and support groups created a positive and energetic environment.

All teams returned to the Convention Centre at 3:30 pm and the pre-race briefing began promptly at 4:00 pm to a tremendous round of applause. After a short presentation regarding the history and rules of Huairasinchi, the organization introduced the producers of the Wild Racers Series. After this presentation, the organizations directors presented the clip made by the Nothingbutshorts crew which revealed the route! Each leg of the route was highlighted and shown over a backdrop showing the map, distances and disciplines. The teams will race over 400 kms crossing three Ecuadorian provinces, from high Andes to the Coastal Region. Despite the addition of an extra night and the obvious challenges that this route presents, the teams’ excitement and anticipation was evident. After receiving their route books and maps they were quick to leave in order to be ready to race at 6:15 am from Aloasi!

The teams will leave from Aloasi and head towards the highest pass of the race in the Ilinizas Mountains at 4,800 metres above sea level. After that they will start their descent towards the Coast with CP’s in Sigchos, the Quilotoa Crater and the Toachi Canyon amongst many others. The teams will have to pass through a total of 25 CP’s to reach the finish line in Piedra de Vapor, Puerto Quito.
