Huairasinchi Ecuador
Day 2 of Huairasinchi Chevrolet 2012
Jessica Gifford / 19.02.2012

Team 01, Ecuador - Nissan, led the pack of elite teams through the second day's CPs, from CP12, 7.2 kilometers of trekking and river crossings in Guyama at 3280 meters, to more trekking at CP13, two rounds of biking at CP14 in Chugchilan where participants were exposed to local carnival festivities, and then through to CP 15in Yaló.
This section proved difficult for some participants as they had to arrive before sunset given the extreme conditions at the start of the trail. The distance between the team in the first position and the rest of the pack has been growing, with a six hour gap separating them from team 06 Lafuma and 11 Fedeme.
The Adventure section began their day at CP9, in Macapungo, and continued around the Quilatoa Crater Lake at 3750 meters through CPs 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Disciplines included biking and trekking and offered spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and villages. Teams 30 (Sunqu Sinchi) and 24 (Vita Leche) are leading the mixed adventure category, while teams 36 (Quinde Explorer) and 38 (Chevrolet USFQ Seguros Oriente Sahino) have pulled ahead in the men's adventure category.
Unfortunately, several teams decided to skip and re-engage at several stages of the race as well as pull out completely, due to the difficulty of the second day's highland sections and for health reasons. The list of teams that have pulled out are Team 2 – Skandia Adventure Team, Team 3 – Merrell Adventure Addicts, Team 5 – Roc Roi Trangoworld, Team 16 – UTN – Imbauto Aventura in the elite category and teams 40 and 37 from the adventure category.
